Bessie Cutter Perlman ‘25 Scholarship Award
This scholarship is provided by the late Bessie Cutter Perlman, class of 1925, the founder of New Jersey Special Olympics. To be eligible for this award, applicants must have a minimum 7.75 earned course units by the Fall semester of the upcoming academic year (course units will be verified prior to award disbursement), possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00, be registered with the Office of Differing Abilities, and have demonstrated a commitment to community service and their fellow students.
Harold W. Eickhoff Outstanding First Year Student Award
Dr. Harold Eickhoff was the president of The College of New Jersey from 1980 to 1998 and was instrumental in developing and implementing the First Year Experience Program. The FYE Program integrates curricular and co-curricular experiences to assist first year students in their adjustment to college by introducing them to four areas: service, diversity, community, and excellence. The successful applicant will be a full-time first year student (between 0.00 and 7.75 course units), having completed no more than one semester, with a minimum 3.0 GPA, who has demonstrated a personal commitment to these four visionary areas of the College.
Elizabeth Allen 1869 Scholarship
This scholarship honors Elizabeth A. Allen, an 1869 graduate of the New Jersey State Normal School at Trenton, who was instrumental in the establishment of the Teachers Retirement Fund and Tenure of Office Act. This scholarship was first awarded in 1923 through a fund established by the New Jersey Society of Retired Teachers.
It will be presented to a full-time first year student, rising sophomore, or rising junior (no more than 16.0 course units) in need of financial assistance, who demonstrates high scholarship, commitment to education, and value to the College. Financial need will be identified by the Office of Student Financial Services.
Recipients should be enrolled full-time in order to be eligible to receive funds and are eligible to be renewed until graduation if they continue to meet the scholarship’s criteria, remain in good standing with the College, and are continually enrolled as a full-time student.
Dorothy Taylor Haas ‘32 Award
Established by Mr. Charles A. Haas, class of 1932, in memory of his wife Dorothy Taylor Haas, class of 1931, this award is presented to a graduating senior with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. The recipient of this award will have demonstrated strong leadership skills, character, great promise for the future, and an extensive commitment to the College through involvement with campus or community events.
John Wandishin ‘79 Scholarship
Established in 1994 by John Wandishin, class of 1979 and a former Student Government Association president and student trustee, this scholarship award is presented to help a rising sophomore, rising junior, or rising senior (minimum 7.75 course units) who has the potential to make positive contributions to the TCNJ community. This student may not necessarily receive great public attention, but exemplifies honor, courage, leadership, scholarship, and service in their efforts to use available resources to further the TCNJ community. This scholarship fulfills Mr. Wandishin’s campaign promise to return to the students the stipend he received as the Student Government Association president.
Memorial Scholarship
The Memorial Scholarship was first awarded in 1960 from a fund created in memory of students and a faculty member who lost their lives in a bus tragedy in October 1959. The scholarship award is presented to a first year student, sophomore, junior, or senior, and is awarded based on academic merit and identified financial need. Financial need will be identified by the Office of Student Financial Services.
William M. Klepper Scholarship
Bill Klepper served Trenton State College/The College of New Jersey from 1971 to 1997, initially as Director of Housing and ultimately as Vice President for Student Life. The scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA who is involved in campus programs, demonstrates academic achievement, and is active in at least one student organization, preferably in a leadership position.
Recipients should be enrolled full-time in order to be eligible to receive funds and are eligible to be renewed until graduation if they continue to meet the scholarship’s criteria, remain in good standing with the College, and are continually enrolled as a full-time student.
Annie F. Stout 1879 and Kate Stout 1882 Scholarship
The Annie and Kate Stout Scholarship for Graduate Study has been awarded since 1931. Because of their commitment to education, sisters Annie, class of 1879, and Kate, class of 1882, established trust funds to help young men and women further pursue their graduate career at the College.
The successful applicant will be a current graduate student or have been accepted for enrollment in a graduate program at the College, be in good college standing, and be in need of financial assistance. At the time of award, the applicant must be registered for at least one course unit the following fall semester. Character and academic promise may also be considered. Financial need will be identified by the Office of Student Financial Services.
Harold W. and Rosa Lee Eickhoff Fund
The purpose of the Harold W. and Rosa Lee Eickhoff Fund shall be to support one or more scholarships annually for a rising junior (minimum 15.75 course units) or rising senior (minimum 23.75 course units) who maintain at least a cumulative 2.5 GPA and demonstrate through their actions that they will leave The College a better place for having been here.
Recipients should be enrolled full-time in order to be eligible to receive funds and are eligible to be renewed until graduation if they continue to meet the scholarship’s criteria, remain in good standing with the College, and are continually enrolled as a full-time student.
Wade Watkins ’84 Scholarship
Established by the TCNJ Alumni Association, this scholarship award is presented in memory and honor of 1984 alumnus Wade Watkins. The successful applicant will be a full time undergraduate student that plays an active role in campus programs, and has made positive contributions to the TCNJ community. Although this student may not necessarily receive great public attention for their efforts, he/she must exhibit the qualities of leadership, scholarship, and service; while having fun in the process.
